Steve is a retired AF Colonel.   He is a 1975 graduate of the USAF Academy and served 30 years as a fighter and trainer pilot, commanded multiple units, did a tour at the Pentagon, and launched rockets out of Cape Canaveral.   He has lived in Florida off and on since 1983 during assignments at MacDill AFB (Tampa), Patrick AFB (Satellite Beach), and Eglin AFB in Northwest Florida.   He retired out of Eglin in 2005 and has since served the community as a substitute teacher, English language tester, and through multiple community projects and volunteer positions.   He was a former President of Southwind Property Owners Association, and led a project to certify the community of Bluewater Bay as an official Wildlife Habitat with the National Wildlife Federation.  He is a member of multiple conservation and animal protection organizations, and volunteers regularly at a local no-kill animal shelter, Alaqua – known to be one of the best shelters in the nation.   He was the local grassroots coordinator for the “Yes on 13” Amendment project in 2018 – to spread the word and encourage voters to vote to ban greyhound racing in the state of Florida by 2020. The Amendment passed and greyhound racing was indeed banned and phased out.

Steve believes that respect for nature and all living creatures goes hand in hand with our instinctive quest for scenic beauty of our surroundings, and that passionate citizens can act together to ensure our state and country consider scenic beauty as a fundamental principle in all planning.  He is on the Florida State Board of Directors of Citizens for a Scenic Florida.

Steve has lived in 15 different states and has visited all 50 states at least once.   He and his wife Sharon have been married for 36 years, and they enjoy traveling the globe together.   They have 3 grown children, 8 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
